Make and answer calls

Place calls from the dial pad, contacts, or call history, answer incoming calls, pick your caller ID, and check call quality.

ConnectUC → Calls Every user 5 minutes

ConnectUC works like the phone app you already know. This article covers placing calls, answering them, and the handy extras along the way.

Make a call on your computer

There are a few ways to start a call. Use whichever is closest.

From the dial pad

  1. Click the dial pad button at the bottom of the left-side menu, or New Call at the top of the Calls tab.
  2. Type a phone number or extension, or click the keys. You can also pick someone from the contact list on the right, or switch to its Recent Calls tab.
  3. Click Start Call.

From a contact, voicemail, or message

  1. Open the contact, voicemail, chat, or text conversation.
  2. Click the phone icon at the top right, or click the phone number.

From recent calls

  1. Open the Calls tab.
  2. Hover over a call under Recent Calls and click the phone icon, or click the call and then Call Back.

Tip: Dialing a coworker? Just enter their extension number.

Make a call on your phone

  1. Tap the dial pad button at the bottom of the screen, or tap + New and choose New Call.
  2. Enter a number or pick a contact, then tap call.

You can also open a contact and tap Call.

Answer a call

When a call comes in, ConnectUC shows a pop-up and plays your ringtone.

  • Click or tap the answer button to take the call. On a computer, Shift + Alt + A answers too.
  • Decline it to send the caller on to voicemail or your next answering rule.

On your computer, you may also see Quick reply options. Use them to send a short message without answering, like “I’ll call you right back.”, “Can’t talk now. Call me later?”, or Write your own message….

Once you answer, a call card appears at the top right of ConnectUC with Caller Insights, mute, hold, transfer, and hang-up buttons. The full call controls open in their own small window.

Choose which number callers see

If you have more than one business number, you can choose which one shows on outgoing calls.

  1. Open the dial pad.
  2. At the top, find Dialing from: and click Change to pick a different number.

Heads up: This changes your caller ID on all your devices, including your desk phone. If you just got a new number, sign out and back in to see it. You won’t see Dialing from: if you only have one number.

Use a phone call while you keep working

On mobile, tap Back to app during a call to use other parts of ConnectUC without hanging up. Tap the Active call in progress banner at the top to return to the call.

On a computer, you can switch tabs freely during a call.

Check call quality

On a computer, click the signal strength icon in the top-left corner of the call window. You’ll see scores for jitter, latency, and packet loss. For a past call, open it under Recent Calls and expand Call Quality at the bottom of the call details. It shows a rating like Excellent or Poor.

If these look poor, see Choppy or one-way audio.

Mute and the keypad during a call

  • MUTE turns off your microphone. You can still hear the other person.
  • DIAL PAD opens a keypad so you can press numbers in a phone menu.

Common questions

Can I move a call from my desk phone to the app?

If you’re on a call on another of your devices, ConnectUC may show a Move Active Call Here button. Click it to bring the call to the app.

How do I clear my call list?

On a computer, click the Clear Call History icon (the clock with an X) at the top of Recent Calls. On mobile, use clear history on the Calls page.

Why don’t I hear incoming calls in the browser?

Your browser may be blocking sound. If you see “The browser is preventing ConnectUC from playing audio. Click anywhere to allow”, click anywhere in the ConnectUC window once. Allowing sound for the site, or installing ConnectUC as an app, stops it for good.
