Contacts and status

Find coworkers and customers in ConnectUC, add your own contacts, mark favorites, and set a status so your team knows where you are.

ConnectUC → Contacts Every user 5 minutes

The Contacts tab is your company phone book. It also shows whether coworkers are free, so you can call or transfer with confidence.

Types of contacts

ConnectUC shows three kinds of contacts in one list:

  • Company contacts: everyone in your company directory, added automatically.
  • Shared contacts: contacts your office manager adds for the whole team, like key vendors.
  • My Contacts: contacts you add yourself. Only you see them.

Click All Contacts at the top of the list to open the view menu:

  • Show: All Contacts, Company, Shared, or My Contacts. You can also Create new contact group.
  • Group By: Name, Site, Department, or Company.
  • Sort By: First Name or Last Name.

Use the Search for a contact box to find someone by name or number.

Add a contact

  1. Click Contacts in the left-side menu.
  2. Click the + button to the right of All Contacts. You can also click + New → New Contact from anywhere. On mobile, tap + New.
  3. Enter the details: name, company, phone, email, address, and a photo if you like.
  4. Save. The contact appears under My Contacts.

Tip: Save a contact’s name and every number they call from. ConnectUC then shows their name on incoming calls instead of just a number.

Mark favorites

Open a contact and click the star next to their name. Favorites appear at the top of your list.

See a coworker’s availability

Coworkers in the company directory show a small presence dot on their picture. Their status is one of Available, Ringing, On a Call, Do not Disturb, or Offline. Open a contact to see their status message and extension, and to call, chat, or start a meeting with them from the icons at the top right.

See your history with a contact

Open a contact and scroll down. You’ll see your past calls, voicemails, and texts with them. Click View Conversation/Details to open the full history.

Set your status

Why: a short status saves coworkers a wasted call.

  1. Click your user icon (top left).
  2. Click Update your Status. The Set a Status box opens.
  3. Click the smiley face to pick an emoji, then type a short message, like “At lunch, back 1:30”.
  4. Click Save. Your status shows to coworkers until you clear it.

To clear it, click the grey X next to your status. Recently used statuses are saved for quick reuse.

Share a contact with a coworker

  1. Open the contact.
  2. Click Share.
  3. Pick one or more coworkers, add a note if you want, and click Share. It arrives in their Chat tab.

Import or export contacts

  1. Click your user icon, then Preferences → Contacts.
  2. To export, choose an option under Contacts to Export (for example My Contacts) and click Export. You’ll get a CSV file.
  3. To import, click Select a File and choose a CSV in the same layout as an exported file. The file can be up to 2 MB. Each contact needs at least a first name, last name, or company name.

The same section has Enable Contact Matching. Leave it on so incoming calls show your saved contact’s name instead of the caller ID name.

Common questions

My status shows I’m on a call, but I’m not.

Your presence may be stuck. Make a quick call and hang up to reset it. If it keeps happening, contact support.

Why do I see ring groups or test extensions in the directory?

Your admin can hide extensions from the directory. Changes can take up to a day to show in ConnectUC.

Can I see my phone’s contacts in the mobile app?

Yes, if you allow it. Go to Preferences → Contacts in the mobile app to turn your phone’s contacts on or off.
