ConnectUC settings

Set up your headset, camera, ringtones, notifications, answering rules, call forwarding, and blocked numbers in ConnectUC.

ConnectUC → user icon → Preferences Every user 10 minutes

Most of what you’d want to change about ConnectUC lives in one place: Preferences. This article walks through the settings people use most.

Open Preferences

  1. Click your user icon in the top-left corner. On mobile, tap your avatar.
  2. Click Preferences.

Sections run down the left side: Profile, Audio, Video, Answering Rules, Blocked Numbers, Contacts, Music on Hold, Notifications, Voicemail, Integrations, Apps, and Keyboard Shortcuts. Some accounts also see System Speed Dial. The mobile app has most of the same sections, plus Calling. Most sections have a Save button at the bottom. Click it before you leave the section.

Headset, speakers, and microphone

Why: the wrong device is the top cause of “they can’t hear me”.

  1. Open Preferences → Audio.
  2. Under Calls & Meetings, choose your Calls and Meetings Speaker (your headset) and Microphone.
  3. Under Notifications and Ringing, choose the Ringing and Notification Speaker and set the Ringing Sound Volume and Notification Sound Volume. Turn on Also ring Calls & Meetings Speaker if you want the ring in your headset too.
  4. Click Test Sound next to any device to check it.
  5. If your device is missing, plug it in and click Rescan Devices.
  6. Click Save.

The same section has Advanced noise suppression (marked BETA), a Voicemail Playback Speaker, and an Outbound ring back volume slider.

Tip: You can also open audio settings during a call with the cog wheel icon in the call window.

Camera

Open Preferences → Video to pick a Camera. You can also turn on Mirror local video, Blur my background during calls, and Camera on when entering meeting.

Ringtones and notifications

Why: pick sounds you’ll notice, and silence the ones you won’t miss.

  1. Open Preferences → Notifications.
  2. Each event has its own block: Incoming Call, Incoming Second Call, Distinctive Ring 1 to 3, Missed Call, Group Chat Meeting Started, Someone Joins a Group Chat Meeting, Incoming Voicemail, SMS, Chat, and Incoming Fax.
  3. For each one, tick or untick the sound, Show notifications when minimized, and Show notifications when in foreground.
  4. Pick a sound from Select Ringtone, such as Default, Gentle ringtone, Kitchen Phone, or Cell Phone Ringing. Click the speaker icon to hear it.
  5. Click Save.
The Notifications section with the Incoming Call ringtone menu open

The Distinctive Ring blocks let you give calls to a department its own ringtone with Select Department.

If pop-ups don’t appear, make sure your browser and computer allow notifications for ConnectUC.

Answering rules and call forwarding

Why: answering rules decide where your calls ring and for how long.

  1. Open Preferences → Answering Rules.
  2. Under Ring Options, set Ring for to how many seconds calls ring before moving on, for example to voicemail (5 to 7200).
  3. Turn on Return Busy if on a call if you don’t want a second call while you’re on one. Auto Answer Incoming Calls and Auto Answer Time answer calls for you after a set number of seconds.
  4. To add a rule, click Add Rule. Choose a time frame and what should happen, for example:
    • Forward All Calls to another number.
    • Do Not Disturb.
    • Simultaneous Ring to ring several devices or numbers at once.
    • Call Forwarding only when you’re busy, don’t answer, or are offline.
    • Call Screening, which asks callers to say their name first.
  5. Click Save. Use the toggle to turn a rule on or off, the pencil icon to edit it, and the handle on the left to change the order.

You can also create your own time frames in the same section with Add Time Frame, such as “Lunch” or “Fridays”.

Heads up: Your admin may have set rules for you. Change them only if you know what they do, or ask first.

For a fuller guide, see Answering rules.

Block numbers

  1. Open Preferences → Blocked Numbers.
  2. Type a number under Add a Number and click the + button. Numbers you add under Allowed Numbers always get through.
  3. Tick Block anonymous or unknown numbers to stop calls with hidden caller ID.

Music on hold

Open Preferences → Music on Hold to choose what your callers hear when you put them on hold. Turn on Enable Music on Hold and Randomize Music on Hold, or Upload a file of your own. If you don’t upload anything, callers hear your company’s music. You can also add an Introductory Greeting that plays first.

Install ConnectUC and one-click calling

Open Preferences → Integrations to Install ConnectUC as an app from your browser, or Register for One-Click Calling so phone number links open in ConnectUC. You can also connect your Microsoft account here to bring in your calendar and contacts. Preferences → Apps has the desktop app downloads and a QR code for signing in to the mobile app.

Mobile network settings

On mobile, Preferences → Calling has two settings that help when you move between Wi-Fi and cell data:

  • Network Switching Strategy: If Needed is the default. Try Always if calls drop or lose audio when you change networks.
  • RTP Priority: choose Prefer Wi-Fi or Prefer Mobile Data.

Your profile

Open Preferences → Profile to see My Information (click Edit to change it), Choose Profile Photo (JPG, PNG, GIF, or SVG up to 1024 KB), pick a 12- or 24-hour Time Format, and choose your Language. To change your password, click Change next to Sign-in Password under Account Settings.

Keyboard shortcuts

Open Preferences → Keyboard Shortcuts to see shortcuts for calls, messages, voicemail, and more. Use the search bar to find one. Most start with Shift + Alt: for example Shift + Alt + A answers a call, Shift + Alt + Q hangs up, and Shift + Alt + M mutes.

Common questions

My changes didn’t appear on my other devices.

Most settings apply everywhere. If something looks out of date, sign out and back in on that device.

Can I set a custom ringtone on my phone?

Yes. In the mobile app, go to Preferences → Notifications.
