Sign-ups: let people join your text list

There are two ways people can join a list on their own:

• Text a keyword. Someone texts JOIN to your number. They’re added to the list right away and get your confirmation text.
• Fill in your sign-up page. You share a link like sms.dialraven.com/join/your-business. People type their first name and mobile number and check the box to agree. We’ll text them to confirm: they get one text asking them to reply YES. They’re added to the list only after they reply YES.

Set it up

1. In the menu on the left, click Sign-ups.
2. Under New sign-up keyword:
   • Pick the Texting number people will text.
   • Pick the List people join.
   • Type the Keyword, like JOIN. One word, letters and numbers only.
   • Check the Confirmation text. It must say how to get help and how to stop (we add that line if it’s missing).
3. Click Create. You get a ready-to-post line (“Text JOIN to (215) 555-0100 to join our texts.”) and your sign-up page link.

What happens when someone uses the sign-up page

1. They fill in the page and click Sign me up. The page says: “Almost done! Check your phone.”
2. They get one text from your number: “Your Business: Reply YES to confirm you want texts from us. Msg & data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out.”
3. When they reply YES (within 24 hours), they’re added to your list and get your normal confirmation text. Any automation that starts from that list starts for them too.
4. If they don’t reply YES, nothing else happens: they’re not on your list and won’t get texts from you.

Why the extra step: anyone can type any phone number into a web page. Asking for a YES makes sure the person who owns the phone really wants your texts. On the Contacts page, their consent shows as “Web form /join/your-business, confirmed by text” with the date.

Good to know

• People who texted STOP to you before don’t get the YES text from the sign-up page. They can text your keyword (or START) to join again.
• People already on the list don’t get another text.
• To protect you from spam sign-ups, there are limits on how many YES texts go out: per phone per day, and per sign-up page and per company per hour. When the limit is reached, the page asks people to try again later.
• Only US and Canadian mobile numbers can sign up.
• The YES text and the confirmation text count toward your monthly texts. They aren’t sent when your texts are used up, your account is paused or your number is turned off.

See who signed up

Sign-ups shows how many people joined in the last 30 days. Open a keyword to see its link and to pause it. Pausing stops the keyword and the sign-up page from adding anyone. People already on the list stay.
