Star codes: handy dial shortcuts

Dial codes that park calls, pick up a ringing coworker's phone, forward your line, turn on do not disturb, and more.

Any desk phone or ConnectUC dial pad Every user 3 minutes

Star codes are short codes you dial from your desk phone or the ConnectUC dial pad to turn a feature on or off without opening the portal. Dial the code just like a phone number, then wait for the confirmation tone or prompt.

Tip: Codes with {ext} need an extension added on the end. For example, to pick up a call ringing at extension 101, dial *35101.

Park and pick up calls

Parking puts a caller on hold in a shared spot so anyone in the office can pick the call up from their own phone.

DialWhat it does
***Parks the current call in the next free spot from 701 to 709. The system tells you the spot number.
*{spot}Parks the call in a spot you choose, for example *705.
The spot numberPicks up a parked call, for example dial 705. *55{spot} does the same.
*34Answers a call ringing at your site (location).
*35{ext}Answers a call that’s ringing at another extension.
*36Answers any call ringing in your company.
*37Answers a call ringing in your department.
*38Moves a call you’re on to another of your own phones. Dial it from the idle phone.

Park spots work differently depending on their number: 701–709 are for ***, 710–719 hold a call until someone picks it up, and 720–729 ring the call back to you if nobody picks it up. To park a call while transferring it, transfer it to the spot number, such as 712 or 722. See Call park.

Forward your calls

DialWhat it does
*72{number}Forwards all your calls to another phone number or extension.
*73Turns that forwarding off.
*90 / *91Turns forwarding when you’re busy on / off.
*92 / *93Turns forwarding when you don’t answer on / off.

Heads up: Star-code forwarding sends calls to one phone or outside number. If you forward to an extension, only that person’s phone rings, not their other devices or answering rules. To send calls to an auto attendant, queue, or a coworker’s full ring setup, use answering rules in the portal instead. See Answering rules.

Do not disturb, voicemail, and queues

DialWhat it does
*78 / *79Turns do not disturb on / off.
*62Checks your voicemail (you’ll be asked for your PIN). Dialing 5001 works too.
5000Checks any mailbox from any phone. You’ll be asked for the extension and PIN.
7{ext}While transferring a caller, sends them straight to that person’s voicemail, for example 7101.
*88 / *89Signs you in to / out of all the call queues you belong to.
*50{ext}Intercom: calls an extension and opens a one-way announcement on their speaker, if their phone supports it. 99{ext} does the same. See Intercom and paging.
*69Calls back the last person who called you.
*74 / *75Turns night mode on / off, if your company has set it up. See Night mode.
*44 / *46Signs you in to / out of a shared hot desk phone. See Hot desking.
*67{number}Hides your caller ID for this one call.

Call recording

If call recording is turned on for your account, you can control it during a call:

DialWhat it does
*80Starts recording.
*81Stops recording.
*82Pauses recording, for example while a caller reads out a card number. It resumes automatically after a minute.
*83Resumes recording right away.

*80 and *81 work once per call. *82 and *83 can be used as many times as you need. See Find, play and download call recordings.

Common questions

Do star codes work in the ConnectUC app?

Yes. Type the code on the ConnectUC dial pad and press call, just like on a desk phone.

A code didn’t work. Why?

Some codes depend on features your account has turned on, such as call recording or call park spots. Codes can also be customized for your company. Contact support and we’ll check your setup.
