Call park

Set up park spots so anyone can hold a call and a coworker can pick it up from any phone, with optional automatic ringback.

Manager Portal → Call Queues Office Manager (to set up), every user (to park calls) 10 minutes

Call park puts a caller on hold in a shared, numbered spot, such as 701. Anyone in the office can then pick the call up by dialing that spot, from any phone or ConnectUC. It’s handy when the person a caller needs is in the warehouse, at another desk, or across the building: park the call, announce “Call for Sam on 701,” and Sam picks it up wherever they are.

How park spots are numbered

Park spots live in the 700s, and the number decides how a spot behaves:

SpotsWhat happens to a parked call
701–709Used by the quick park code ***, which drops the call into the next free spot in this range.
710–719The call waits until someone picks it up. Every so often, the caller can choose to leave a voicemail instead.
720–729If nobody picks the call up within 2 minutes, it rings back to the person who parked it.

Spots must be in the 700–729 range to work with these built-in behaviors. The 730–799 range is held back in case you need more spots; contact support if you do, since custom park numbers may involve a setup fee.

Before you start

  • Each spot has to exist before anyone can park a call on it. If people get an error when they park, the spot probably hasn’t been created yet.
  • Don’t use 700–799 for anything else, like users or menus. See Choosing extension numbers.

Create park spots

You create each spot as a special kind of call queue.

  1. Go to Call Queues.
  2. Select Add Call Queue.
  3. Enter a Name, such as “Park 701.”
  4. Enter the spot number as the Extension, such as 701.
  5. Set Type to Call Park.
  6. Optionally choose a Site or Department (see below).
  7. Select Add.
  8. Repeat for each spot you want. Most offices start with 701–704 for quick parking, and add a few in 720–729 if they want ringback.
The Add a Call Queue dialog with Name Park 701, Extension 701 and Type set to Call Park

Tip: Create at least as many spots in 701–709 as calls you might have parked at once. When every spot in that range is full, *** can’t park another call.

Park and pick up a call

From a desk phone:

  • Dial *** during a call. The system parks it in the next free spot from 701 to 709 and tells you the number.
  • Or dial * followed by a spot number, such as *705, to choose the spot yourself.
  • Or transfer the call to a spot number, such as 712 or 722, to use that spot’s behavior.
  • To pick up a parked call, dial the spot number, such as 705.

From ConnectUC: select PARK in the call window and pick Auto Park or a specific spot. To pick up, open the Parking tab and choose the call. See Hold, transfer, park, and conference calls.

Tip: Put your most-used park spots on desk phone buttons with Button Builder. The button lights up while a call is parked there, and pressing it picks the call up. See Add and set up a desk phone.

Change the ringback time

The 2-minute ringback on spots 720–729 is controlled by the spot’s own answering rules.

  1. Go to Users.
  2. At the bottom of the list, uncheck hide system users so park spots appear.
  3. Select the park spot, such as 720, and open Answering Rules.
  4. Change Ring for to the number of seconds a caller should wait before ringing back.
  5. Select Save.

On spots 710–719, the same Ring for setting controls how often the caller is offered the chance to leave a voicemail. For that to work, voicemail must be turned on for the spot.

Who sees which park spots

In ConnectUC, park spots can be limited by Site and Department:

  • A spot with no site or department is visible to everyone.
  • A spot with a site, a department, or both is visible only to people assigned to that same site and department.
  • A person who isn’t assigned to any site or department sees every spot.

This keeps a large office or a multi-location company from seeing each other’s parked calls. See Sites and departments.

Common questions

I dialed *** and heard an error. Why?

Either no spots exist in 701–709, or they’re all in use. Create more spots, or pick up some parked calls.

What happens if nobody picks up a parked call?

On 720–729, it rings back to the person who parked it. On 701–719, it keeps waiting, so remember to check the Parking tab or your park buttons.

Can I park a call from the ConnectUC mobile app?

Yes. Use the park option in the call screen, and pick up parked calls under Calls → Park.
