# Dial Raven: Website setup for business texting approval (A2P 10DLC)

Version 2026-10-17 · From the Dial Raven Help Center: https://dialraven.com/help/connectuc/sms-website-compliance

<instructions>
You are helping a small business update its website so US mobile carriers approve its business texting (an "A2P 10DLC campaign"). Dial Raven, the business's phone provider, submits the registration. Carriers reject registrations when the website is missing specific wording, so your job is to add that wording correctly.

Work in this order:

1. Ask the user for every value in "Business details" below that they haven't given you. Ask in one short list. Never invent a value. If they don't know one, leave the placeholder and tell them.
2. Ask how their website is built (for example WordPress, Wix, Squarespace, Shopify, GoDaddy, Webflow, or custom HTML) and whether you can edit the files directly.
   - If you can edit files, make the changes in Tasks 1–3 directly.
   - If you can't, give copy-ready blocks for each task with plain instructions for exactly where to paste them on their platform.
3. Complete Tasks 1–3. Task 4 is optional.
4. Finish with the self-check and the "What to do next" list at the end of this document.

Rules:

- Text between `BEGIN REQUIRED TEXT` and `END REQUIRED TEXT` markers is language carriers check for. Keep it word for word. Only replace the `{{PLACEHOLDERS}}`. You may adjust layout and styling to fit the site.
- Add to the existing privacy policy and terms. Don't delete or rewrite the business's other content.
- If the existing privacy policy says the business shares or sells personal information with partners, affiliates or third parties, don't remove that. Add the "carve-out" sentence from Task 1 directly after it so mobile information is clearly excluded.
- Use exactly the same business name everywhere: the website, the checkbox, the terms, and the messages.
- The SMS checkbox must be unchecked by default and optional. The form must still submit when it's unchecked. Never make the phone field required just for texting.
- Text consent must be its own checkbox. Don't combine it with email signup, phone calls, or "I agree to the terms."
- If the business wants to send promotional or marketing texts (sales, offers, coupons), it needs the separate marketing checkbox in Task 3. Informational and marketing consent must never share one checkbox.
- All links must be full `https://` links on the business's own domain. Don't use link shorteners such as bit.ly.
- Don't use the words "implied consent", "P2P" or "person to person" anywhere.
- This is general information, not legal advice. Say so once when you finish.
</instructions>

## Business details

Ask the user for each of these. The examples are only to show the format.

| Placeholder | What it is | Example |
|---|---|---|
| `{{BUSINESS_NAME}}` | The business name customers see. Must match the name registered with carriers (the legal name or the "doing business as" name). | Acme Plumbing |
| `{{WEBSITE_URL}}` | Main website address | https://www.acmeplumbing.com |
| `{{MESSAGE_TYPES}}` | What the business will text about, in plain words | appointment reminders, service updates, and replies to your questions |
| `{{SUPPORT_PHONE}}` | Phone number for help | (407) 555-0100 |
| `{{SUPPORT_EMAIL}}` | Help email, ideally on the business's own domain | help@acmeplumbing.com |
| `{{PRIVACY_URL}}` | Full link to the privacy policy page (create the page in Task 1 if there isn't one) | https://www.acmeplumbing.com/privacy-policy |
| `{{TERMS_URL}}` | Full link to the terms page (create the page in Task 2 if there isn't one) | https://www.acmeplumbing.com/terms |
| `{{CONTACT_FORM_URL}}` | Full link to the page with the form where customers will opt in | https://www.acmeplumbing.com/contact |
| `{{SENDS_MARKETING}}` | Yes or No: will the business text offers, promotions or coupons? | No |

## Task 1 (required): Privacy policy, add a "Text messaging" section

Add this section to the existing privacy policy. If the business has no privacy policy, create a public page at `{{PRIVACY_URL}}` with a basic policy that describes what information the business collects and why, then add this section. The page must be public (no login) and must be the only privacy policy on the site.

<!-- BEGIN REQUIRED TEXT -->
```markdown
## Text messaging (SMS)
If you choose to receive text messages from {{BUSINESS_NAME}}, we collect your mobile phone number and your consent to receive texts, and we use them only to send you the messages you signed up for.
We do not share, sell, rent, or provide your mobile phone number or your SMS opt-in or consent information to third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes.
Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to stop receiving messages or HELP for help. For more details, see our SMS Terms at {{TERMS_URL}}.
```
<!-- END REQUIRED TEXT -->

Carve-out: add this sentence right after any existing sentence that says the business shares information with third parties, partners or affiliates.

<!-- BEGIN REQUIRED TEXT -->
> This does not apply to mobile phone numbers or text messaging opt-in data, which are never shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes.
<!-- END REQUIRED TEXT -->

## Task 2 (required): Terms, add an "SMS Terms" section

Add this to the existing terms of service, or create a public page at `{{TERMS_URL}}` if there isn't one. If `{{SENDS_MARKETING}}` is Yes, add "and promotional offers" after `{{MESSAGE_TYPES}}` in the first bullet.

<!-- BEGIN REQUIRED TEXT -->
```markdown
## SMS Terms
**{{BUSINESS_NAME}} text messaging program**
- By opting in, you agree to receive text messages from {{BUSINESS_NAME}} about {{MESSAGE_TYPES}}.
- Message frequency varies.
- Message and data rates may apply.
- For help, reply HELP or contact us at {{SUPPORT_PHONE}} or {{SUPPORT_EMAIL}}.
- You can cancel at any time by replying STOP. You'll receive one message confirming you've been unsubscribed, and no further messages.
- Consent to receive text messages is not a condition of purchase.
- Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.
- You must be 18 or older, or the account holder, to opt in.
- Our Privacy Policy is at {{PRIVACY_URL}}.
```
<!-- END REQUIRED TEXT -->

## Task 3 (required): Contact form, add an optional SMS checkbox

On the form at `{{CONTACT_FORM_URL}}`:

1. Make sure the form has a phone number field. It should be optional unless the form exists only to sign up for texts.
2. Add the checkbox below directly under the phone field, above the submit button. It must start unchecked and must not be required.
3. Put the consent wording right next to the checkbox. Don't hide it in a pop-up, a tooltip or a separate page.
4. The two links in the wording must go to `{{TERMS_URL}}` and `{{PRIVACY_URL}}`.
5. Save the checkbox value with the form submission, along with the date and time, so the business has a record of each customer's consent.

Informational checkbox (always add this one):

<!-- BEGIN REQUIRED TEXT -->
> ☐ I agree to receive text messages from {{BUSINESS_NAME}} about {{MESSAGE_TYPES}} at the phone number provided. Message frequency varies. Msg & data rates may apply. Reply HELP for help or STOP to opt out. Consent is not a condition of purchase. [SMS Terms]({{TERMS_URL}}) | [Privacy Policy]({{PRIVACY_URL}})
<!-- END REQUIRED TEXT -->

Marketing checkbox (only if `{{SENDS_MARKETING}}` is Yes; add it as a second, separate checkbox):

<!-- BEGIN REQUIRED TEXT -->
> ☐ I agree to receive recurring automated marketing and promotional text messages (for example, offers and promotions) from {{BUSINESS_NAME}} at the phone number provided. Consent is not a condition of purchase. Message frequency varies. Msg & data rates may apply. Reply HELP for help or STOP to opt out. [SMS Terms]({{TERMS_URL}}) | [Privacy Policy]({{PRIVACY_URL}})
<!-- END REQUIRED TEXT -->

HTML version, for sites you can edit directly. Keep the field names your form already uses.

```html
<label for="phone">Mobile phone (optional)</label>
<input id="phone" name="phone" type="tel" autocomplete="tel">
<label class="sms-consent">
  <!-- Unchecked by default and NOT required. -->
  <input type="checkbox" name="sms_consent" value="yes">
  I agree to receive text messages from {{BUSINESS_NAME}} about {{MESSAGE_TYPES}}
  at the phone number provided. Message frequency varies. Msg &amp; data rates may apply.
  Reply HELP for help or STOP to opt out. Consent is not a condition of purchase.
  <a href="{{TERMS_URL}}">SMS Terms</a> | <a href="{{PRIVACY_URL}}">Privacy Policy</a>
</label>
```

Website builders (Wix, Squarespace, WordPress form plugins and similar): add a "Checkbox" field, set it to not required and not pre-selected, and use the consent wording above as its label. If the builder can't put links in a checkbox label, put the wording with its two links in a text block directly under the checkbox.

<example>
A correct contact form, top to bottom:
Name · Email · Mobile phone (optional) · ☐ [informational consent wording with both links] · ☐ [marketing consent wording, only if they send marketing] · Message · Send

Incorrect, and rejected by carriers: a required phone field; a checkbox that's already ticked; "By submitting this form you agree to receive texts" with no checkbox; one checkbox covering texts, emails and calls; consent wording only on a separate page.
</example>

## Task 4 (optional): Make it easy to find

- Link the privacy policy and terms in the website footer on every page.
- Make sure the site shows the business name, what it does, and how to contact it (phone or email). Carriers check that the site is a real, working business site.
- The site must load over `https://`. A "coming soon" or under-construction page is rejected.

## Self-check

Before you finish, check each item and report it to the user as ✔ or ✘. Fix anything you can. Explain anything only the user can fix.

- ✔/✘ The privacy policy has the "Text messaging (SMS)" section with the no-sharing sentence word for word.
- ✔/✘ Any existing "we share with third parties or partners" wording has the carve-out sentence right after it.
- ✔/✘ There is exactly one privacy policy, at a public `https://` link.
- ✔/✘ The terms have the "SMS Terms" section with all nine bullets.
- ✔/✘ The contact form has a phone field and an SMS checkbox that is unchecked by default.
- ✔/✘ The form submits without the box checked.
- ✔/✘ The consent wording is right next to the checkbox and links to the terms and privacy policy.
- ✔/✘ Text consent is separate from email signup, calls and "agree to terms."
- ✔/✘ Marketing has its own separate checkbox, or the business doesn't send marketing.
- ✔/✘ `{{BUSINESS_NAME}}` is spelled identically everywhere.
- ✔/✘ No placeholders like `{{...}}` are left anywhere.

## What to do next (tell the user)

1. Publish the changes and open each page in a private browser window to confirm it's public.
2. Send these links to Dial Raven (reply to your order email or email support@dialraven.com): `{{WEBSITE_URL}}`, `{{PRIVACY_URL}}`, `{{TERMS_URL}}`, `{{CONTACT_FORM_URL}}`. If the form is behind a login, include a full-page screenshot of it.
3. Dial Raven writes and submits your campaign. Approval usually takes 7 to 10 business days.
4. Once approved, the first text you send each new subscriber must be the opt-in confirmation message Dial Raven registers for you, for example: "{{BUSINESS_NAME}}: You're signed up for {{MESSAGE_TYPES}}. Msg frequency varies. Msg & data rates may apply. Reply HELP for help, STOP to opt out." Your customer doesn't need to reply to it.
5. Only text people who checked the box, or who agreed in another way you can show, such as a signed form or a recorded phone script. Texting someone who first texted you is fine for replies about what they asked.

This guide is general information, not legal advice. If you plan to send marketing texts, consider a review by a lawyer familiar with the TCPA and your state's rules.
